Good idea Andreas !
Even going further why dont the operators offer the branded services when you call them/they call you to renew your contract ? Just renewed my contract with O2 and they gave me a new blackberry free of charge. If they would have offered me 'relevant' branded premium business applications pre-installed in the blackberry I would have purchased them over the phone.I like your view about making it easy to buy the branded experience.

Thanks Senthil - it's not only win-win-win, but it's also straightforward to implement. I 've mentioned the idea to a few operators, but most of them have been reticent.

Please spread the word. At least as consumers, we 'll hopefully see this materialise one day!

I love this idea. This is a win-win for all - consumer, operator, franchisee and the consumer brand. Now these are the out-of-box ideas that will help stop declining ARPUs for operators

[...] Another idea for mobile phone retail stores is selling hardware features - imagine buying a phone and then adding an FM radio capability to it at the point of sale for a modest?surcharge. Although feasible, this concept can be realised mostly in the long term. For more here-and-now ideas on retail stores see previous posts on a visual approach to selling data services?and?differentiating?at?retail?with?a?mobile?phone?health?index. Selling hardware features The consumer purchase criteria for handsets today are the style & design of the handset, the price, the features and the bundle offered by the mobile operator (in order of importance) - the importance ranking of these criteria is roughly the same globally. When it comes to features, the consumer will often ask how good the camera is (the more megapixels the better!), whether the handset can play mp3, whether you can use a bluetooth headset with it, whether it has FM radio on, etc. [...]
