Mobile software vendors (ISVs) who develop software for mobile handsets are competing in an increasingly crowded market; on-device software is being increasingly commoditised, channels to market and mobile operators are a challenge to deal with, and middlemen are always there to take a respectable revenue share. So what are the options for a mobile ISV who’s keen to upsell the value of their software assets ? Here I present a framework of five strategies that mobile ISVs can use. Each strategy is presented in one slide, from one to five. You can download the entire presentation here.

slide two, you said Nokia widsets is exception.why is that? why do you think mobile 2.0 platform has better chances?
Good question. WidSets (and generally mobile widget platforms) have better chances of success as a platform, because they open up mobile device to the *long tail* of web developers (a feat no other mobile technology / operator has been able to come as close to, as they typically focus on the short head).
Mobile operators and handset manufacturers are keen to open up their devices to web services, in a way that makes (visual) sense to the end user and creates brand-based, bit-based or use-based revenue, and that’s why they are embracing widget platforms (or starting to). Moreover, widgets don’t come with any vendor lock-in risk, and they don’t necessitate much of an investment in network/device infrastructure (contrary to most other platforms).
Makes sense ?
