The MotoRIZR Z6 was at some point was renamed MotoROKR Z6. It is sold today in about 20 countries, from the looks of Motorola's website. Although not single-core, it does have only one memory and one storage bank -- solving the main goal of single-core designs, i.e., BOM cost reduction and power reduction.

Thanks Neil - I updated the post to reflect your note about Italy and the Z6. I also found out that the Z6 is single chip (SoC) but dual core, contrary to previous reports. See the updated post for a link to the Freescale presentation with all the juicy info.

A side note: the Z6 has been released for sure in Italy too. No advertising at all, as the Z8.

Hi DD,

Very interesting.. Do you know if the Z6 has been a successful model, and whether the software is stable, given it's their first single core handset ?

Quick note, the Rizr Z6 was released. In China, but probably missed its market window. And yes, it was based on Freescale's Starcore - single core architecture.

Outstanding post - I do have the sense that watching Moto is like watching a very large, very public car crash. Uncomfortable and at times painful yet strangely fascinating...

<!--%kramer-pre%-->s built-in level sensor. Pretty smooth, although the software's still in testing. Carnival 97 Carnival of the Mobilists no. 97 is over at VisionMobile and well worth reading. And make sure you read their ownanalysis of the Motorola buyout of 50% of UIQ, showing how it makes financial sense. Although I don't agree with their dismissal of Symbian OS as just a 'kernel and drivers'(!) Z10 video production and E90 Flash video A couple of link of interest as a followup to the London Smartphone Show.<!--%kramer-post%-->
