George - thanks for the suggestion. Are there any high-profile projects in *mobile* that can be classified under Brownian motion ? If so, I can add 1-2 key ones.

G Maheswari - there is no single 'open source community' and as such there is no single 'reaction' from such a community. There are communities built around weak copyleft licensed components such as Maemo (GTK stack) and WebKit that are extremely succesful, vibrant with such communities consisting both of developers paid to contribute as well as hobbyists. In short, sponsored and hobbyist cultures can coexist harmoniously under the same roof, as has been proven time and time again.

Hi Andreas,

Nice post.
Any idea as what is the opensource community reaction towards this heavy usage of weakleft components by mobile device makers that too for a profitable business?

Good one Andrea. For the Brownian-based community there are lots of projects out there. You could mention some from "sourceforge" for instance.
