Hi Dean,
you may be right, but I would think that the iPhone 3G would attract attention from users that are willing to spend a serious amount to get their hands on a handset - typically not prepaid users. But lets see, the iPhone is the ideal candidate to change that.

In any case, I am quite eager to find out whether the new iPhone will require some form of activation (via iTunes) or will be ready for a sim card out of the box.

Another issue that Apple is facing is how to deal with prepay-centric markets, or ones in which the operators do not tend to be the handset distributors.

For prepay markets, it will be extremely difficult to do a revenue-share, I suspect.

Hi Paul,
My opinion is that the iTunes store is great for developers. It only charges 30% (compared to other aggregators: Handmark, Handango et al charge up to 60%) and most importantly, it is a centralised place where iPhone users can get their applications.

True, the iPhone is not a phone. It is an Internet device/iPod with additional phone functionality.

I think it is already spawning clones, look at the TouchFLO UI, but from a point of view of applications, it is going to be interesting to see what kind of revenues Apple can extract over and above this $50 (Ringtones/applications etc). Personally I think that developers are in for a shock when they see how little they get out of the deal.

Do you have any figures for the iTouch which is much more interesting as I have always viewed the iPhone/iTouch as more of PS Portable type device and not a phone.
