Information is lifeblood for developers. This report provides insight into how and where cloud developers get their sustenance. The information will enable you to better engage with the developers who constitute your current and future users as well a base of potential employees. We asked cloud developers how they get information about cloud development. Follow-up questions were asked about the types of Q&A and community sites that are visited and which conferences are attended. Delving deep into the characteristics of developers, the report identifies several niches which savvy marketers can target as they craft their outreach.
The report is based on data collected from 3,894 self-identified cloud developers in April and May of 2016. In this report, the terms “backend developer” and “cloud developer” are used interchangeably, but the survey asked about involvement with “backend services”.

This report is based on a large-scale online developer survey designed, produced and carried out by VisionMobile for 11th edition of the Developer Economics study. The survey received 3,894 responses from cloud developers (those involved with backend services) that formed the basis of the insights of this report.
The online survey was translated in 7 languages (Chinese, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish) and promoted by more than 70 leading community and media partners within the app development and IoT industry. We corrected for regional bias and segment distribution bias across our outreach channels.)
